Aubrey O’Day to pose for Playboy???Wednesday, November 26th, 2008New Kanye West “Heartless” Video Review…Wednesday, November 26th, 2008The song was performed for the first time at the ONE Campaign concert during the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado.[2] The song was also performed at a T.I. concert at Key Club in Los Angeles.[3] Kanye made a special guest apperance and confirmed the song’s future release as a single at that show.[4] The cover art is a follow-up to Love Lockdown. It is exactly the same, except for a mint green tint, and missing the red heart balloon and is therefore “heartless”. A snippet of the unmastered version of the song was leaked onto the Internet on October 12, 2008. This was followed by a full unmastered version of the song being posted on West’s official blog on October 15.[5]The song was released on iTunes on November 4, 2008. This is the first single by West to appear under the genre “Pop Art”. West describes 808s & Heartbreak as “Pop Art”, though the previous single, “Love Lockdown,” appears under “Hip-Hop/Rap”. The song was released as part of iTunes’s “New Music Tuesday” and available on the temporary mix, “Best of the Store, Nov. 4″. iTunes administrators later amended the genre to “Hip-Hop/Rap” to match the previous single. According to MTV, West announced that a music video has been shot for the song at a listening party for 808s & Heartbreak. [7] The music video was released onto West’s blog on November 7, 2008. It is directed by Hype Williams and uses the rotoscoping animation technique, which West claims was inspired by the 1981 animated film American Pop, where a vast amount of character animations were traced over live-action footage. the video also was shown on its television debut as BET’s new joint of the day on November 18th 2008.[8] On November 8, 2008, Kanye posted a new mastered version of the song on his official blog. A free link to download the song was posted there as well.[6]Hype Williams puts his hand into this animated video which pulls its inspiration from American Pop. Although how much of a hand he had in it remains to be seen. He showed the movie to Yeezy, who loved it and then as Ye says, “WE RECORDED REAL PEOPLE AND THEN HAD 65 ANIMATORS IN HONG KONG HAND DRAW OVER EVERY CELL.” In our head, we’re thinking, “We didn’t want to/didn’t have the time or money to make it clean like Waking Life or A Scanner Darkly, so we went old school 80’s and sold it as ‘Pop Art’. See also “Shutter Shades.” Who knows, we could be wrong, we’re dicks like that. Either way, 65 High Fives to the animators holding it up for West and keeping his name in the spotlight over in Hong Kong. Well played. Shawty Lo Responds Back to Scuffle With T.I.Tuesday, November 25th, 2008Shawty Lo Talks About Scuffle With T.I.’s Camp At Atlanta’s Dirty AwardsLo tells MTV News police stopped the fight before anyone came to blows.During the third annual Dirty Awards Monday night at Atlanta’s Georgia International Center, members of T.I.’s and Shawty Lo’s camps got into a physical altercation, according to witnesses. Lo puts full blame on the head of Grand Hustle records, while Tip could not be reached for comment after the dustup. “I didn’t go and start nothing. If they rewind the cameras, they’ll see how it started,” Shawty Lo told MTV News early Tuesday morning (November 25). “I’m a man. I respect every man as a man. If a man disrespects me, what am I supposed to do? T.I. needs to contain his people. We’re not standing down. I performed my music; 107.9 [one of the show’s organizers] called me to perform. I didn’t come to start no beef with him. I gave Tip a shout-out at the BET Awards.” As he was performing his hits such as “Dey Know” and “Dunn, Dunn,” Lo said that members of Tip’s Grand Hustle family, most notably artist Alfamega, came out of their seats, stood in front of the stage and started “mean mugging.’” (Click here for photos of T.I. and Shawty Lo from the Dirty Awards) “Basically, I didn’t start saying anything about Tip,” Lo explained. “I was performing my music. During ‘Foolish,’ all of them was coming in front of the stage doing their mugging. After ‘Dunn, Dunn,’ I performed the dis record ‘Don’t I.’ That’s what made perform the dis record. I ain’t gonna lie; they was disrespecting me. I wasn’t gonna let them disrespect me.” As Lo rapped the barb-riddled track some eyewitnesses said Tip’s crew started throwing chairs onstage. While Shawty said he cannot be sure who threw the first chair, he thinks it was Big Kuntry. A witness told MTV News that Tip’s camp did not get hostile with Lo before “Don’t I” and that Lo threw gas on the fire by calling out Grand Hustle’s Yung L.A. Shawty Lo and his D4L camp were taken to the back after the fracas and the show was temporarily suspended. Surprisingly, it resumed shortly after, and that’s when things got strange. Lo said that he ran into T.I. backstage, and Tip suggested an immediate closed door meeting to which Lo agreed. They once again talked about ending their feud — “It’s been squashed a few times,” a source who asked not to be named said — which has been going on for over a year now. “He told me the beef was over with,” Lo recalled. “I said, ‘If the beef was let go, me and you have to publicize it. We have to do it together.’ He agreed to do that, and we shook hands in the back room.” But the tension was far from over. With the show back in session, Lo and his people were allowed back to their seats. Tip got onstage to accept an award, and during his speech, a witness said the King of the South declared that “if somebody’s got a problem with me, do something better than me.” Soon after that comment, Tip started performing “Ain’t I” with Yung L.A. They didn’t get through the entire record, because during the performance, Alfamega and others in the Grand Hustle camp got into a scuffle with Lo’s D4L squadron. While Lo said that Alfa jumped off the stage to approach Lo and his crew, a witness said that Alfa was never onstage, just standing to the side. But everyone agreed that a melee took place during “Ain’t I,” ending the Dirty Awards for good. T.I. himself was never involved personally in either of the night’s scuffles, and he was escorted offstage and out of the show once the mini brawl began. Lo maintained that the two parties were cut off by police before they ever came to actual blows. Police did start shooting pepper spray and the self-proclaimed King of Bankhead was hit in the eyes. “They sprayed me in my face. I couldn’t see nothing,” Shawty Lo told. David Banner was the host of the Dirty Awards, which were attended by Big Gipp, Soulja Boy Tell’em, Monica, Murphy Lee, Ludacris and Rick Ross. There are also witness reports that a member of DJ Drama’s Aphilliate camp got into a fight with one of Young Jeezy’s CTE camp members. Has Monday night put a black eye on the example of unity Atlanta’s rappers had recently set? “I don’t know, we’ll see,” Lo said. “[Me and Tip’s conversation] ended on a positive note with the conversation. I don’t know where he is [with the beef]. I guess he just be talking. One thing about it, Shawty Lo ain’t no punk. T.I. is just a rapper. He knows how to read a book good. Where I live is for real. I ain’t got nothing against homes. He’s got family, I got family. I’m not trying to kill him, he’s not trying to kill me. I got fans that love me. He’s not not gonna run all over me. I ain’t Lil’ Flip.” Video of T.I./Shawty Lo ScuffleTuesday, November 25th, 2008Here’s footage from Monday night’s fight between T.I. and Shawty Lo’s camps at the “Dirty Awards”. Eminem Made Out Of M&M’s!Monday, November 24th, 2008Believe it or not, Eminem has finally become a portrait in good taste. The rapper has been unwrapped and immortalized in candy M&M’s by artist Enrique Ramos, who transformed 8 pounds of candy (roughly a thousand sweet treats) into a portrait of Marshall Mathers. The Ripley’s Believe It or Not! folks acquired the piece for one of their museums (or possibly one of their afternoon snacks). What do you think? With this many calories, is it still fair to call him Slim Shady? Sound off with your art critiques in the comments. Just don’t sugarcoat it, OK? DJ Qbert Launching A School?Monday, November 24th, 2008By Chris Richburg Through a series of progressive videos, Qbert will teach various levels of scratching techniques to students that range from basic to exotic to beat juggling. With the university, Qbert sees unlimited potential in reaching newcomers who want to become an established DJ as well as veteran turntablists looking to take their skills to the next level. “It’s cool that skratching has so many fans around the world and we can all be in one place now and learn from each other no matter where we live,” said Qbert, who will make assignments to students when necessary. “One day in the future, we’ll be able to instantly beam ourselves to any location in the world. But for now, the easiest way I can connect with other skratchers around the globe is through the QSU!” Participants will be able to post videos on the University’s website as Qbert evaluates and responds to each video by offering personal guidance and suggestions via a response video or written text assessment. Also, students can work at their own pace and move around the instructional videos. The online school is the latest accomplishment for Qbert, who has been featured in the critically acclaimed documentaries Scratch and Hang the DJ. In addition to providing a continuous block of instruction, the turntablist will post videos of competitions as well as his experiences on the road.
